Nowadays, most folks consider pasta an Italian food thanks to all the delicious recipes hailing from Italy. However, it’s likely that pasta actually comes from noodle dishes in China. In the 13th century, Marco Polo brought these tasty meals to Italy. Another possibility is that nomadic Arabs spread these dishes to Europe. However it actually got to Europe and then the states, it likely came from Asia. Although, in China, the breadfruit tree contributed the flour to make their noodle-filled dishes. Once in Europe, the technique changed a bit. Durum wheat became the main ingredient which produced a dry product that was easier to store and transport. Moreover, since fresh veggies and tomatoes proliferated in Italy’s mild climate, the sauces changed to variations we associate with Italian food today.
