Who Started Tony’s Pizza

Luckily, our story began over 40 years ago in New York. Perhaps, we could actually say it truly started in Calabria, Italy because that’s where our family roots began. Tony’s Pizza Background

Over 40 years ago, our story began in New York. Truthfully, it actually begin in Calabria, Italy but we’ll get to that! In Brooklyn, brothers Vinny, Tony and Mario grew up surrounded by a huge Italian family. As most folks know, Italian families take their food and meals very seriously and generally love to cook.

From a young age, the brothers watched their relatives cook and learned authentic Italian family recipes. Likewise, they mastered the iconic NY-style pizza and opened a pizzeria in Brooklyn. Then, in 1981, they had an opportunity to head south to North Carolina. There, they opened a pizza shop in Jacksonville. Afterwards, they expanded to Charlotte, Hickory and the Triad (with their sister store – Mario’s Pizza).

Our menu includes their authentic Italian entrees, stromboli, calzone, NY-style pizza, subs, salads, appetizers and Italian desserts.

Similarly, as a locally owned business, we do our best to use local and fresh ingredients whenever possible. Thus, our meals have less preservatives and more fresh flavor.
